Roxen (Urdu: روظن, literal English translation: "hope") is a Pakistani rock band from Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan. Formed in 2004, the band's original lineup included Mustafa Zahid on vocals, Haider Halim on lead guitar, Omar Halim and Jawad, more commonly known as Jodi.

The band achieved mainstream success with their debut studio album Rozen-e-Deewar, released in 2006. Following this, the band went on gaining worldwide recognition for their singles "Toh Phir Ao" and "Tera Mera Rishta" which featured as soundtracks for the Bollywood movie Awarapan in 2007. After a gap of two years, the band released a single "Bujh Hai Gaya", from their upcoming second album, which was a huge hit in Pakistan. This was followed by the band releasing a soundtrack "Khuda Ke Liye" for the Indian movie Runway. In 2011, band members Omar Halim and Jodi left the band due to pursue personal careers and Shahan Khan joined the band on guitars.

Currently, the band are expected to release their second studio album Bhoola Samundar in late 2011.

Etymology

The name ROXEN is derived from the Urdu word ROZEN which means "A hole in a wall of a prison cell from which a ray of light emerges & gives hope & freshness", the word Deewar means Wall, (Rozen-E-Deewar). The name was suggested by Kashaan, a friend of Mustafa Zahid

Music

Roxen was formed back in September 2002 with initial line up of Mustafa a.k.a musti , Jawad a.k.a Jodi and Omar & came out with their debut song Yaadein i which labeled them as "another jal-wannabe band" but gained immense popularity.

After a couple of months they came out with web release of another song called Tau Phir Aoo with its demo version. The song registered over 65000 downloads in one month.[1] After adding another young talent Haider from Lahore underground the band started working on their debut album at Xth Harmonic in October 2005 and later came out with another audio/video of their track Sapnay directed by Ahmed Ali Butt.

With tints of pop and dark shades of rock too, Roxen hit the market with their debut album on August 31, 2006, titled Rozen-E-Deewar, released under Fire Records in Pakistan, Hom Records in India & Sangeet Records in USA, Canada, the Middle east & the rest of the world.

Roxen did first bollywood venture with Mahesh Bhatts Awarapan in 2007 and with tracks like Toh Phir Aoo and Tera Mera Rishta Purana on the soundtrack the album did wonders both in India and Pakistan. The tracks became anthems for the masses and Roxen came out with the video of Toh Phir Aoo featuring Emran Hashmi.

In 2009, Roxen released a single "Bujh Hai Gaya," which gained a lot of popularity and is considered a perfect come back for the pop rock band. Later on Roxen came out with another Bollywood song 'Khuda Key Liya' on the soundtrack of movie Runway.

Currently Roxen is working on their 2nd album titled as 'Bhoola Samundar' which is expected to hit stores by early 2012

The year 2011 also brought a change to the bands lineup as Jodi and Omar departed and Shahan Khan joined the band on Guitars. As the news go around Roxen also has some great bollywood projects under their belt so one would expect a lot more from them in current future.
